About Us

Energizing Communities. Uniting Leadership. Building the Future.

The Missouri Community Economic Development Alliance was formed with a clear and powerful purpose — to energize and refresh older, underutilized communities into stronger, modernized, and economically thriving regions.

Centered in Sullivan County, North Central Missouri, we serve as a unifying alliance of local government officials, business leaders, agricultural representatives, and civic organizations working together toward sustainable growth.

We believe rural America does not need to be left behind — it needs collaboration, leadership, and strategic action.

Who We Are

People often ask: What's the difference between Economic Development and the Chamber of Commerce?

They work closely together, but their roles are different-and they are partners, not competitors.

Economic Development focuses on strengthening and growing the local economy. That includes attracting new businesses, supporting existing companies as they expand, and working on business retention, making sure the companies already here have what they need to stay and grow. This often involves workforce development, infrastructure planning, site development, and connecting businesses with resources to solve challenges.

The Chamber of Commerce, on the other hand, focuses on supporting and promoting the business community through networking, advocacy, visibility, and programs that help businesses build relationships and succeed.

A simple way to think about it:

Economic Development: Attracting new businesses, supporting expansions, and retaining existing employers to grow jobs and investment.

Chamber of Commerce: Connecting, promoting, and advocating for the local business community.

The most successful communities understand that these organizations complement each other.

Economic development works on long-term economic growth, while the chamber helps strengthen the relationships and support network that businesses rely on every day.

They coexist, collaborate, and work toward the same goal: a stronger, more prosperous community for everyone.
